Stomach Cramps (Emotional Causes) Herbal Treatment

100 ml Blend, Dose 20 drops three times daily $58

Gastro Intestinal Tract (GIT) health depends on all the organs supporting the digestive system performing in harmony and the gut itself functioning calmly and moving food along through the various stages of digestion until it is converted into a normal stool in the descending colon and discharged.

Stress induced stomach cramps is a situation where there has been produced in the gut a cramp in the normal flowing peristaltic pattern which moves through the whole of the GIT as part of normal functioning.

These sorts of cramps can be the precursors of Stomach Ulcers if the habit becomes deeply entrenched. This is because an interruption in peristaltic movement in the stomach itself will reduce the protection from acid attack of the mucosal lining, which relies on constant movement to stimulate mucus production to wash acid away from the lining surface.

Children complaining of tummy aches on a Monday morning do actually have pain, even though the reason for it is completely psychosomatic.

Caffeine drinks, Coke and Coffee primarily, are also responsible for a stimulation which can result in worsening this stomach cramping response in adults and should always be the first thing removed from the diet of someone suffering in this way.

The herb Chamomile is the primary parasympathetic nervous system relaxant and this herb either as a substitute hot drink in tea form or made up into a tea for adults or used to dilute a fruit juice or drink for children, is the first thing to try to break into this cramping response to stress.

My herbal treatment suggestions may also involve a course of Slippery Elm Bark Powder. This is given at a dose rate of one dessertspoon daily mixed into a paste with cold Chamomile Tea and taken for a continuous period of 12 weeks. Slippery Elm provides a protective lining to the mucosal lining of the stomach, and in 12 weeks will completely heal any irritated areas.

If these simple measures do not reduce stomach cramping I prepare a concentrated extract of herbs which given as a course will try to retrain the system and break the habitual cramping response.

This mix contains the following herbal extracts: Chamomile, Alfalfa, Slippery Elm, Liquorice and Marshmallow and the Bach Flower Remedies Walnut, Larch and Agrimony.

The treatment must be maintained initially for at least 3 months and most folk find that when they have finished with the Slippery Elm they generally benefit further from maintaining the herbal tonic as a supplement for longer, usually until their stomach cramps have not been a problem for 6 months or more.

Any person suspecting stomach ulcers can use this sort of preventative measure safely.
